The client and creative teams that took part in the Sorrell Foundation’s joinedupdesign for myplace programme 2009 gathered at Central Hall Westminster on Tuesday 27 October to celebrate the outcomes of their projects.
The myplace programme aims to deliver world-class youth facilities driven by the active participation of young people, and their views and needs. The Sorrell Foundation worked closely with 15 projects, helping teams of young clients from locations all over England engage with world-class architects, branding experts and creative advisers on the design of their new youth centres. By the end of the programme, each client team had taken ownership of their project, and the celebration gave them an opportunity to share their experiences, and the concept for their youth centres, with the other client teams.
The event, which was hosted by Radio 1 DJ Ras Kwame and featured a performance from street dance group Vortex, took place in front of an audience of 300, including Dawn Primarolo MP, Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families; industry professionals from the youth sector and arts organisations; architects and designers; representatives from the Department of Children Schools and Families and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport; and from Big Lottery. The creative teams presented their young clients with certificates recognising their contribution to the programme, and a short film of each project was screened.
‘People forget to have aspirations. Part of the point of myplace is to say that you can have them and we can help you make them come true.’
Lucy Parker, Chair of the Talent & Enterprise Taskforce
