The National Art & Design Saturday Club Summer Show is now open at Somerset House, showcasing work from school pupils aged 14–16 who have taken part in free Saturday morning classes at their local colleges of art and design.
The club has been developed by the Sorrell Foundation to give young people opportunities to explore their talent at their local colleges of art and design. In this, the pilot year, four have taken part: Cleveland College of Art & Design, Hereford College of Arts, Plymouth College of Art and Leeds College of Art, involving 100 pupils from 56 schools. The young people have had the opportunity to explore painting, drawing, sculpture, 3D design, ceramics, stop-frame animation and photography among other art forms. They also benefited from a masterclass led by one of four well-known artists and designers: Antony Gormley, Thomas Heatherwick, Domenic Lippa and Simon Waterfall.
The exhibition, which runs until 15 August in the Great Arch gallery, includes ceramic sculptures, self-portraits in wire and print and drypoint etchings. To find out more about the National Art & Design Saturday Club, click here.
